My chaotic notes about gardening Published on thought ongoing

So... I am a gardening noob, but a gardening noob who is willing to learn! I'll jot down some of my gardening learnings here.

Warning: There is absolutely no structure to this ongoing note. Browse it at your own risks.

NPK or the 3 essential nutrients

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) are known as the three crucial nutrients for healthy plant growth.

  • Nitrogen (N): for plant growth, and greening up plants — think UP.
  • Phosphorus (P): for better root developement, and helping produce blooms — think DOWN.
  • Potassium (K): promotes all around wellbeing, improves resistance to illnesses and droughts — think ALL AROUND.

Here is how to naturally get those nutrients:

  • Nitrogen (N): nettle slurry, coffee grounds
  • Phosphorus (P): ground egg shells, wood ash[1]
  • Potassium (K): ground egg shells, banana peels, comfrey slurry[2]

  1. Wood ash will make the soil more alkaline. It will be bad for plants that need an acidic environement (e.g. strawberry, raspberry, blackberry trees). ↩︎

  2. In French: purin de consoude ↩︎
